長い間京都に住んでいるが、険しい山の上にあると聞いて躊躇していたが、世界文化遺産だということで、この度ようやく参ることにした。
高山寺は山の中に建物が点在しており、京都市内なのに街中とは別世界である。今でこそ国道が通っており、車で容易に訪れることができるが、かつては、
鬱蒼とした山中にあり、厳粛さ、静寂さは今とは比較にならないものがあったと思われる。
ここは、お茶発祥の地とも言われ境内には日本最古の茶園がある。
日本茶を頂き、自然に耳を傾ける。
I have been living in Kyoto for a long time. I have finally decided to visit because I heard it was registered with the World Heritage although I heard that it's on top of the very steep mountain.
The Buildings of Kozanji-Temple is scattered throughout of the mountain. It is such a different atmosphere from the rest of the city even though it is inside the boundary of Kyoto city. We now have a highway access there but it used to be secluded deep wood. It is said that the solemnity and serenity is incomparable in the past to the modern days.
There is the oldest tea farm of Japan in the temple. It is believe that Japanese tea culture was born in this place.

「鳥獣人物戯画(Chōjū-jinbutsu-giga)」は12世紀後半の作とされる国宝で、漫画の原点といわれている。
動物による水遊び・弓・相撲といった遊戯や法要・喧嘩などの場面が風刺的に描かれる。
抑揚のある描線を駆使した快活でユーモアあふれる筆致。
うさぎや狐は分かるが、カエルを主人公に据えた作者のセンスにに共感を覚える。
“Chōjū-jinbutsu-giga” is one of national treasures from late 12th century and it is said that the origin of cartoon.
Scenes of plays such as water play, bow, and Sumo, Buddhist memorial services, and fights by animals are described satirically.
Using lively lines, this writing is a full of spirit and humor.
I retain sympathy with the author’s sense of making a frog a main character, besides rabbit and fox.
