Former Kingsoft PowerWord CEO Launched Cambridge WoWo, Smart Voice-based Early Education Service
Jia Lin, former CEO of leading free online dictionary Kingsoft PowerWord, founded Cambridge WoWo, an early childhood English education service with focus on kids between three to six years old (report in Chinese). The firm has received angel investment from Wang Donghui, founder of Ameba Capital and former CFO of Kingsoft.
Cambridge WoWo integrates the contents provided by traditional educators into smart interactive courseware and offers it to both kindergartens (2B) and parents (2C). The highlight of this courseware is that it can recognize the pronunciation of kids to realize human-computer interaction.

Jia Lin氏, 無料オンライン辞書大手のKingsoft PowerWord 元CEOが3才から６才の幼児期の子供に向けた英語教育サービス、Cambridge WoWoを創設した。この企業はAmeba Capitalの創設者でKingsoftのCFOのWang Donghui氏からエンジェル投資を受けた(中国語の記事)。
Cambridge WoWoは従来の教育を行う教育者によるコンテンツを、迅速で、活発である双方向コースウェアに調和させ幼稚園（B2B）や親（B2C）に提供する。このコースウェアの特徴は子供の発音を認識し、人間とコンピューターの相互作用を実現可能にしていることだ。
Cambridge WoWo set-top boxes sold to kindergartens can be connected to televisions to achieve interactive teaching. The parents need authorization of kindergartens if they want to download app of Cambridge WoWo. They can watch the same contents as their children via the app and help them to review the courses at home.
The company currently covers more than 2,500 kindergartens and over 400,000 households. The business mode is to share revenue with content providers.
Cambridge WoWoの通信端末は幼稚園に販売され、テレビに繋いで対話式の授業を行なう事も可能にしている。保護者はCambridge WoWoのアプリをダウンロードしたいかと言う点において、幼稚園の承諾が必要となる。保護者はアプリを通して子どもたちと同じ内容を観賞する事が可能となっており、家で復習をする手助けとなる。
企業は現在、2,500以上の幼稚園と400,000以上の家庭を対象としている。この事業方式は収益をコンテンツプロバイダーと共有する為のものである。
This technology is developed by a project co-launched by Cambridge University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, aiming to apply voice recognition technology and human-computer interaction technology into foreign language teaching by simulating a native language interaction atmosphere, according to introduction on the company’s official website. The company has gained the technology authorization of this project.
企業の公式サイトに掲載されている紹介によると、この技術はCambridge大学とMassachusetts機関による共同開発プロジェクトであり、音声識別技術と人間―コンピューター間の相互作用技術を、母国語での意思の疎通を真似る事によって外国語教育へ適用する事を目的としている。そして企業はこのプロジェクトの技術認可を受けている。
