The “trusted source” project comes from VirusTotal, an online scanning service Google acquired in September 2012 with the promise that it would continue to operate independently. To those who consider Google and Microsoft to be archenemies, the “operate independently” clause should help explain why VirusTotal chose to start its project with help from Microsoft:

“It was natural for us because our core service is a platform for sharing and because we already had a threat analysis framework called ThreatData that we could build upon,” Mark Hammell, manager of Facebook’s Threat Infrastructure team, said in a statement. “Our goal is that organizations anywhere will be able to use ThreatExchange to share threat information more easily, learn from each other’s discoveries, and make their own systems safer.”

While highly targeted attacks are on the rise, many threats go after multiple targets. As a result, one successful attack often results in a flurry of similar attacks performed elsewhere.

Singapore-based real estate crowdfunding site nabs $733k investment

CoAssets, a crowdfunding site from Singapore that lists properties from around the world, has raised S$1 million (US$733,000) in series A funding from undisclosed investors. This values the company, believed to be the first real estate crowdfunding platform in Southeast Asia, at S$13 million, or about US$9.53 million post-money.

The startup previously received seed money from Expara IDM Ventures with support from Singapore government agency Media Development Authority. Jeffrey Chi, managing director of Vickers Venture Partners and chairman of the Singapore Venture Capital And Private Equity Association, also contributed.

Townscript, a Pune-based Do-It-Yourself (DIY) event registration and ticketing portal, has secured an undisclosed amount in funding from a group of individuals, including Mohit Garg, Co-founder of MindTickle; Mahesh Parasuraman, Managing Director of Carlyle Group; Nipam Shah, Founder of NRS Advisors; and Dheeraj Vasisht, Director of Ameretat Technologies.
