China Mobile Has 15.6 Million Users in Pakistan

I’m going to be honest — I didn’t even know China Mobile operated in Pakistan (we don’t cover central Asia too often). But it does — via a subsidiary company branded “Zong” — and apparently the company has been enjoying impressive growth there recently. In the last nine months of 2011, its Pakistan subscribers increased by 8.6 million, making it one of the major telecom players in Pakistan. At present, the company is apparently gaining subscribers at a rate of more than 600,000 per month.

Wantedly: Japan’s Trust-based Social Recruiting Site Officially Debuts

On Monday, a Tokyo-based tech startup called Wanted officially released its social recruiting platform Wantedly. The service was developed by ex-FBer Akiko Naka and her buddy Gaku Hagiwara, and it allows employers to find potential employees by showing them how they would work in the company with possible future colleagues.


We had a chance to interview the startup’s co-founder and CEO Naka and asked her a little bit more about the service, as well as some of the details behind it.

月曜日、東京を拠点とするテック・スタートアップの「Wanted」がソーシャル・リクルーティング・プラットフォームの「Wantedly」を開設した。このサービスは元FBerのナカ・アキコ氏と親友のハギワラ・ガク氏によって開発された。このサイトで雇用者は、求職者に対し共に仕事をするであろう仲間たちと、これから企業の中でどういった仕事をするのかを提示することで、将来性のある求職者を探すことができる。

スタートアップの共同創立者でCEOのナカ氏へのインタビューで、このサービスについての詳しいことや、ここにいたる経緯を伺った。

CHAPTER 15-1
To have employees who are highly enthusiastic about their work, you need to be enthusiastic about your work. If you are like most people, that is not something that will flow out of you naturally. You must make a conscious decision to be enthusiastic. If you are a person who is naturally enthusiastic all the time, relax and be grateful for the gift. If you aren't, get ready to do some more work.

Determination
Each day when you enter the office, you must determine that you are going to be excited about what you have to do. That doesn't mean you are going to love everything you have to do that day, but that does mean you will attack each and every task with enthusiasm, whether you feel it or not.

CHAPTER 11-4
Follow a plan
The first step in your plan should be to make sure that you are clearly communicating the principles that are important for you in the workplace. You must also be communicating clearly the final goal of the job. An employee who doesn't know the principles or the ultimate goal will be left guessing about how to make decisions.
The second step should be to discuss decisions that you normally make with employees who are in a position to make these decisions. Don't throw people without training into deep water and expect them to swim. Begin with discussions so they can understand how you think.
The third step should be to allow them to make some decisions.

計画の第一段階は、職場であなたが最も重要とする方針を明確に伝えることだ。同時に、最終的なゴールもしっかり伝えておかなければならない。方針やゴールをわかっていない社員は決断の時に迷いが生じてしまう。
第二段階として、これらの意思決定を行うポジションの社員とともに、普段行っている決断について話し合うことだ。トレーニングをしていない人は深海に投げ込まれても泳げるはずがない。話し合うことから始めるのだ。そうすれば、みんなもあなたの考えを理解できる。
第三段階は何か自分たちで決断させてみることだ。

CHAPTER 5-4
Much more can be accomplished by saying, "You seem to have a problem in following through on a project. What do you think the problem is?" Or "I am having a problem with your attitude toward your coworkers." Don't allow feelings of discomfort to restrain your ability to tell people what you think. (Of course, a harsh approach is rarely acceptable.)
With your honest and direct communication, employees will know clearly where they fall short and where they excel. They will also know that you care enough about their work to recognize what they are doing well and not doing well.

さらに「プロジェクトの進め方で問題を抱えているようだが、何が問題なんだろう。」や「同僚に対する君の態度が気になるのだが。」などと伝えることで、さらに効果が上がる。自分の考えを伝えようとする力を抑えこんでしまう不安な気持ちは捨てなければならない。（もちろん、厳しい言葉というのは好まれるものではないが）
誠実で率直にコミュニケーションをとることで、社員は何が足りなく、何が優れているのか明確に知ることができる。また、彼らの仕事のどこが良く、どこが良くないのかを見極めるために、あなたが彼らの仕事をとても気にかけていることも、わかってもらえることになる。

CHAPTER 5-2
Praise
When praising the work someone has done, avoid using general statements: "You always do great work," or "That's the best thing you have ever done." General praise offered too often will lessen the effect of the praise, and the recipient may wonder if you really know or understand what has been done well.
Be truthful and specific in your praise. Identify tasks that have been done well, and tell the person exactly what they are. Praise people directly: "You are very good at closing a sale; that's a real art," or "You have done an excellent job at taking this project and laying out plans to accomplish the desired end."

褒める
誰かの仕事を褒めるとき、「いつもすばらしい仕事をしているね。」や「今までで最高の出来だね。」など、ありきたりな言葉を使うのは避けるべきだ。ありきたりの称賛をたくさんしても効果は減るだけで、相手も自分の成果が本当に理解されているのかと疑問に思うだろう。
真実を具体的に述べることだ。素晴らしい点を見極め、どこが良かったのか的確に伝える。「取引が成立して良かった。すごい才能だ。」や「このプロジェクトを引き受け、計画を立て、望まれた結果を出せて素晴らしい仕事だった。」というふうに端的に伝えるべきだ。

CHAPTER 5-1
One basic principle for every workplace is honesty. Without honesty, no real communication can occur. No respect can be built. Worst of all, no one ever knows what to believe.
Honesty is very important in praise, and it is even more important in evaluations. Sometimes the truth hurts a little but truth will always give you integrity, it will give your words power, and it will provide a basis for trust in every relationship, including those in the office.

あらゆる職場で基本的原則となるのは誠実さである。誠実さがなければ、本当のコミュニケーションは生まれない。尊重し合うこともなくなる。最も困ることは、何を信じていいのかわからなくなることだ。

Big Bang Releases Two More Track Lists for Upcoming Album

Just moments ago, YG Entertainment updated their official blog with two more track titles for their upcoming album. The fifth and sixth tracks of the new album are “It’s Not Fun” (Or possibly, “It’s Not Funny” depends on the context) and “Fantastic Baby.”

G-Dragon wrote the lyrics for both songs and participated in producing them as well. T.O.P wrote additional rap parts. Other individuals that contributed to the two songs in terms of editing and producing were: D.J Murf,Peejay, and Teddy. It's notable that G-Dragon participated in the production of all six songs for this album.

Big Bang、次回のアルバムの2曲のタイトルを追加発表

先ほど更新されたYGエンターテインメントのオフィシャルブログで、最新アルバムの中の2曲のタイトルが新たに発表された。ニューアルバム5曲目と6曲目のタイトルは「It’s Not Fun （もしかしたら「It’s Not Funny 」になるかも）」と「Fantastic Baby」となっている。

G-Dragon が2曲とも作詞し、プロデュースにも参加している。ラップのパートはT.O.P が作詞している。その他編曲、プロデュースで参加しているはD.J Murf、PeejayとTeddy。注目すべきはG-Dragonがアルバムの6曲すべての製作にかかわっていることだ。

The track list comes out right on the heels of Se7en’s revealed track list. It looks like early 2012 will be a busy time for YG fans! In other Big Bang news, both Daesung and Taeyang appeared on SBS K-Pop star with their boss YG.

After School was chosen as models for the hand bag brand “Samantha Thavasa.” Within South Korea, Samantha Thavasa is well known as a brand that visitors to Japan will purchase. The brand is highly popular in New York, Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. After School will also take charge for the background music of the commercial film. The song for the commercial “Just in time” is a part of the first album.

A representative of Samantha Thavasa stated that After School’s powerful and energetic charms have a good synergy with Samantha Thavasa’s loveliness. The representative also stated that the 8 members each have their own charms. It is being said that filming for the commercial was successful because of the friendly atmosphere.

On January 25, After School launched the Japanese single “Rambling Girls.” Their first official album “PLAYGIRLZ” will be launched on March 7. After the launch, After School will begin their Japanese tour in April.

“Dream High’s” Kim Soo Hyun and Suzy’s Rehearsal Clip for Kiss Scene Surfaced

“Dream High,” starring Kim Soo Hyun, miss A’s Suzy, 2PM’s Taecyeon, and more, was a phenomenal success last year, detailing the lives of six students aspiring to be Korea’s top music artists. Its huge success has led producers to make a second season, which premieres tonight, January 30.

With the upcoming broadcast of the second season just hours away, netizens were able to dig up past rehearsal clips of the last scene from the first season where Sam Dong (Kim Soo Hyun) is on the bus. During the scene, Sam Dong is on his way to New York when he opens the window and pulls Hye Mi (Suzy) in for a kiss.

Former Homeless Woman Becomes Twitter Celebrity

Alone and homeless on the streets of Chicago, AnnMarie Walsh found comfort in Twitter.

“It feels so good to know there is someone out there,” she said. “I could Tweet and there was always someone there listening.”

Walsh was homeless for six years before she met a case worker at a Tweetup event who helped her find temporary housing. Her Twitter profile says she’s been off the streets since April 7, 2011.

住む家もなく孤独に路上で暮らしていたシカゴのAnnMarie Walshさんはツイッターに居場所をみつけた。

「そこに誰かがいるとわかるのがうれしいの」と彼女は言う。「私がツイートすると、それを見てくれる人がいつもいる」

Walshさんは仮設住宅を見つけるのを手伝ってくれたケースワーカーの人にツィートアップイベントで出会うまでの6年間、ホームレス生活だった。彼女のツイッターのプロフィールには路上生活は2011年4月7日で終わらせたとなっている。
