Oakley does sometimes have different product in different markets. So, that may be the explanation of why you see something in Japan that is not showing in the USA.

If the OO9095-16 is new, then it may be a limited edition release that is only available at selected outlets. I have seen that before from Oakley. For example, if they would make a Golf specific pair of glasses, they may only make that item available to Golf accessory stores and no one else. So, if this item is new, that could be the explanation.

No, that list is simply a list of all the products that come up under that search term. To check stock I would have to go to another screen.

To understand the full journey, the story goes way back to May 1999 when Chinaren.com was founded - arguably the first college-focused online social network in China, way before even Facebook and Friendster started. Chinaren was founded by Joseph Chen (Renren’s current CEO) along with Yunfan Zhou and Nick Yang (who both eventually co-founded NASDAQ-listed KongZhong). Their first task was to hire someone to build the technical backbone of Chinaren; so they went to Tsinghua university and they found Zany, who was still an undergraduate.

Zany ended up hiring more than 60 fellow Tsinghua students to build out the tech team. Just three months away from obtaining his bachelor degree, Zany chose to drop out of college. Zany said that Chinaren was fast growing but they didn’t have money to run further, so getting acquired was the only sensible route out. Back then, there were few investors anyway.

His belief that online social networks would one day be a big thing in China saw him join the first Renren as CTO. That’s no typo - and this is the part where it gets confusing. So read on:

Renren 1.0 was founded by Anthony Cheng and Michael Robinson in early 1999. They raised US$37 million in funding, listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, reached a market cap exceeding US$1 billion and then, after the dotcom bubble burst just a few weeks later, Renren 1.0 was acquired by a Hong Kong holding company. How are you? I like the TV very much. I already have the 46 inch and 55 inch versions (Sony doesn't sell the 40 inch version in the U.S). Since the U.S. and Japan have similar power and both use the NTSC color standard, I figured the 40 inch TV would work fine here.

I'm still trying to learn if there is an English menu option (at setup). I've read that Sony and Panasonic disable the languages other than Japanese on their domestic (made for Japan) televisions. If there isn't a way to display English, I'm going to get someone here in the San Diego area to translate the setup screens from Japanese to English for me. Tencent’s OCR App Gets a Fresh Pair of Eyes, Now More Like Google Goggles

Last September I reviewed a new translation app from China’s Tencent (HKG:0700) that uses OCR technology to read words, via the phone’s camera, and automagically translate them. Now the app, Soso Huiyan, has been updated to version 2.0 on the iPhone [1] and has evolved to become more like Google Goggles, able to recognise logos, book covers, movie posters (and lots more) and give you search results from that image.

The refreshed app makes some use of Tencent’s own Soso.com search engine, which is a minor player in the China market with an approximate 5 percent market share. Though the updated Soso Huiyan app is clearly following the lead set by Google with its Goggles app, it sets Soso apart from the nations’s top search engine, Baidu, among smartphone-toting Chinese web users. The app could be especially useful for shoppers, as it not only scans and recognises logos and stuff, but can also process barcodes and QR codes to give you more detailed product information.

The free app is still geared towards Chinese users, not global ones – it works best, in terms of its language abilities, when translating English to Chinese text – but could be useful for overseas travelers to China who might find themselves wanting to scan a logo (if Google Goggles fails you). But the app does at least have an English localization. Version 2.0 also bundled in a business card scanner, but I’ve yet to test out how good that is.
