Hallo Hallo Mall launched in April 2012. It is a platform for buyers to sell their products, and customers can directly buy these products posted online through its payment gateways. It also gives buyers bonus points dubbed Hallo Hallo points, which can be used to purchase other products. Currently, there are already over 5,000 shops registered, and over 200,000 advertisements posted in the e-commerce site.

Croak.It Wants To Be The Voice of the Web

Voice messaging is pretty common nowadays. Chat apps like WeChat and Whatsapp have their own voice messaging feature. There’s also Talkbox that works like WeChat but focuses primarily on voice. And not forgetting Bubbly which is a Twitter-like voice service. All of these voice messaging services are either bound within an app or its own social network.

But Croak.it, a startup from entrepreneurs working in India and U.S., has a more “open” approach towards voice messaging. It allows users of the internet to push and speak on any webpages that uses its API. You can record and then send the voice messages to other social networks. That’s for the web, though. Croak.it can also be incorporated in mobile apps too. One of the company’s representatives told me:

[Developers can use] the API to develop a plethora of voice based applications. For example – if you want to develop the Talking Tom Cat (popular mobile application) functionality, all you have to do is copy paste a two line script from our API and add a third line of code which changes the frequency of the voice returned to you.

There are many other ways in which you can use Croak.it too. A customer could leave a voice feedback to express him or herself better. Blogs like ours can perhaps have voice comments one day. Smart Txtbks is relevant in a country where the majority of people still use feature phones, and where many families cannot afford e-book readers and tablets.

Merlee Jayme, partner and chief creative officer at DM9JaymeSyfu, says the next step is to present this to the Department of Education to make this available to more schools nationwide. She adds that part of the plan is to come up with a donate-your-old-phone campaign to provide more cellphones to public school students.

This campaign also gave the Philippines its first-ever Grand Prix at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, where it went up against more than 35,000 creative projects from 92 countries.

Following the launch of Doku Wallet earlier this year, MyShortCart is Doku’s second initiative to own the online consumer payment market which is still dominated by individual sellers over social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and BlackBerry Messenger.

MyShortCart provides a practical and efficient way for people to receive payments over items that they sell online with the additional trust provided by a certified financial institution. While people often prefer cash on delivery or bank transfers, there’s a greater risk of fraud that these more traditional methods carry.

今年に入ってのDoku Walletのローンチに続くMyShortCartは、オンライン消費者決済市場で勝ち進むためのDoku’sによる第二弾の取り組みだ。この市場ではFacebook、Instagram、Twitter、BlackBerry Messenger上で販売を行っている個人の売り手が依然として主流を占めている。

This will revolutionize the online trading system that currently still rely on transfers and COD”.

Head of business development at Doku, Dhenu Wiarsandi, explained that MyShortCart is primarily aimed at individuals and small businesses who regularly trades online through social media channels. “There is a significant number of individuals who set up shop on BlackBerry Messenger, Facebook, Instagram, and practically all of them employ primarily bank transfers and cash on delivery. These are largely unsecured and unsafe transactions so we want to raise the trust level among the parties concerned”.

The service is presented as a shopping cart, one which operates exactly like any other online shopping cart except it’s not provided by the merchant. It supports various methods of payment including bank transfers, credit card payment, as well as Doku Wallet. Individuals who have entered the product details on MyShortCart will be provided with a unique URL which they can use to distribute anywhere from social networks, messaging services, websites, and even email.

“Merchants or sellers must have a government issued ID number and a tax file number (NPWP) before they can conduct transactions through our service”, explained MyShortCart product lead Imam Akbar Hadikusumo. Unfortunately this means individuals who have neither will not be able to take advantage of this service.

“It’s part of our commitment to provide secure transactions and unfortunately that means you have to be at least 17 years old”. The Indonesian government issues ID cards for citizens that have reached the age of 17 to deal with all official matters. MySortCart also employs escrow and fraud detection mechanisms on top of personal ID numbers, to significantly reduce fraud risks.

Wiarsandi said that MyShortCart isn’t a marketplace but it’s easy to think of it that way if you haven’t used the service. What keeps this from being a marketplace is that there is no master page that shows all of your listed items, only individual ones for the purposes of processing payment.

Wiarsandi氏によると、MyShortCartはマーケットプレイスではないが実際にサービスを利用してみないとそのように思えてしまうだろうという。MyShortCartには掲載アイテムすべてを表示するマスターページはなく、支払い処理をするための個別のページしかない。それがマーケットプレイスとの違いだ。

Currently MyShortCart is already being used by a small number of companies and organizations who have been participating in the trial period which dates back to January of this year. Among them are site builder Pixtem, charity organization Dompet Dhuafa, female fashion stores Belowcepek and Lost Mannequin, Asian Brain, and No Designs.

E-publishing Platform Cloudary Raised $110 million from Goldman Sachs and Temasek

Cloudary Corp., formerly Shanda Literature, reportedly has secured $110 million in new financing from Goldman Sachs and Temasek. (via Tencent Tech). In mid-2012, Cloudary received $15 million funding from Orbis for a 1.875% stake, thus at a valuation of $800 million. It is reported that the valuation for the latest round is lower than $600 million (in Chinese). (Update: Cloudary announced it on July 9 in Beijing, saying the funding will be used for building an open platform and mobile services)

The China’s largest online literature publishing and distribution platform filed with SEC for IPO on the NYSE in 2011, planning to raised up to $200 million. At the end of 2012, Robert Chiu, former managing director of Merrill Lynch, was introduced as president of Shanda Interactive and chairman of Cloudary, which was taken as a sign that Cloudary would accelerate IPO.

Before the rumored IPO time, the founding team of Qidian.com, the biggest site of Cloudary’s six publishing platforms and the one that created the business model, left Cloudary and built a new one on Tencent’s online media platform.

中国最大の文学出版・配信プラットフォームであるCloudaryは2011年にニューヨーク証券取引所でのIPOをSECに申請した（最大2億米ドルの調達を計画）。2012年末に、元Merrill LynchマネジングディレクターのRobert Chiu氏がShanda InteractiveのプレジデントおよびCloudaryのチェアマンに就任し、これがIPO実現が加速される兆候と受け止められた。

Established in 2007, Cloudary now is operating six online literature publishing sites and companies for print books, play scripts, copy rights, etc. As authors are the most valuable to Cloudary, it is believed that the left Qidian team will lure away some good ones. Not only was Tencent eying the online reading market and the Cloudary business model, Baidu also launched one, Duoku, last month. Before them, major Chinese online media such as Sina, Sohu and Netease each had built an online publishing service — the same with Qidian’s. Early last month, Sina announced to spin it off and establish a separate company.

Cloudary’s sites had 1.6 million authors and 6 million titles as of March 31, as disclosed in the F-1 it filed in May 2012. It recorded $30.45 million in Q1 2013, with 69% from online publishing and the rest from offline businesses.

Airizu, the German Capitalists-backed Airbnb Clone, Found Closed

ドイツの投資家が支援するAirbnbクローンのAirizuがサービスを停止したことが判明した

Airizu, the Airbnb clone backed by German capitalists Samwer brothers aiming to take on the China market, is found closed. The site, Airizu.com, now is redirected to Wimdu, the Europe-based travel rental site that is also built by Samwer brothers’ company Rocket Internet.

Less than two months ago we heard that Airizu had laid off 80% employees and Samwer brothers stopped funding the service. Airizu still has 20 employees who are managing accommodations for Wimdu, as reported (report in Chinese).

ドイツの投資家Samwer兄弟が支援するAirbnbクローンのAirizuは中国市場への参入を目指していたが、サービスを停止したことが判明した。現在、サイト（Airizu.com）へのアクセスはWimduへリダイレクトされている。Wimduはヨーロッパに拠点を置く旅行レンタルサイトでSamwer兄弟の会社であるRocket Internetにより構築された。

2ヶ月ほど前にAirizuが従業員の80％をレイオフし、Samwer兄弟が同サービスへの資金提供を中止したといわれていた。報道によると（中国語）、Airizuにはまだ従業員が20名おりWimduに代わりユーザーの宿泊先に関する管理を行っているという。

Launched in 2011, Airizu was one of the earliest entrants in travel rentals in China. As founded by the notorious Samwer brothers, it was expected it would soon be sold to other players when it got traction and hype. ELong, one of the leading Chinese online travel services, and Homeway reportedly offered to buy it but were rejected by Samwer brothers. The rumored reason is the offered prices were lower than expected.

2011年にローンチされたAirizuは、中国の旅行レンタル分野へいち早く参入したサービスの1つだった。悪名高いSamwer兄弟により設立されたことから、ユーザーを獲得し注目を集めたところで早々と他社に売却されるだろうと見られていた。報道によると中国の主要なオンライン旅行サービスの1つであるELongとHomewayがAirizuの買収提案をしたがSamwer兄弟により拒否されたという。拒否の理由は期待より提示価格が低かったからだとうわさされている。

As for the local Airbnb-like services, it seems the game has just began. Mayi, the one spun off from Ganji the classified site, raised $10 million to start up. Core employees of Mayi left the company and built another one, Xiaozhu, claiming that it also had raised $ 10 million in funding. Tujia, a more ambitious one, has raised RMB 400 million ($65mn). Soufun, one of the largest online estate services, founded Youtianxia.
