Alibaba says one-third of all items are purchased through Alipay on mobile phones, an increase of 800 percent since one year ago. That includes more than 100 million people who used Alipay mobile on top of an additional nearly 100 million who used the separate e-wallet app in the last year.

Tencent Finally Taps into Online Education Market,with A Live Video Course Feature Added to QQ IM

We have been waiting for Tencent to release an online education service, for the largest Internet company in China by market cap and user base cannot miss out on such a potential market.

The latest version of Tencent’s QQ IM added an Education Mode to the group video chatting service. So a teacher can give live courses to a group of students directly on QQ. Some tools are available for delivering classes such as Power Point support.

In the words of Jamey Merkel, CEO, Kluje.com, “Finding a reliable and professional contractor is a lot of hard work. There is a large variation in the quality of the contractors.”

And metaphors are extremely powerful catalysts for finding solutions because they enable you to abstract a complex problem into a form that you can draw into your experiences to solve a problem.”

Indeed, technical skills or expertise may not be the right approach for projects that need breakthrough innovations. As Vivek Wadhwa, Singularity’s vice president of research and innovation, has said, “The biggest enemy of innovation is the expert.”

Questioning Kutcher’s presence at a tech company discourages other artists or lay people to venture into these areas. And to achieve breakthrough innovation, we need them. Working with outsiders requires a new of form of thinking, being, and questioning.

Founded in 2008, Comagic is an O2O service provider focused on cartoon-themed kids’ furniture. It opened more than 120 physical stores in first-tier cities like Beijing and Shanghai and settled in B2C platforms including Tmall, JD, and Vipshop. After chalking up 100 million yuan ($16.29 million) of revenue in 2012, Comagic secured 100 million yuan of Series B financing from Tiantu Capital this October. The company has received 60 million yuan of Series A financing from Tripod Capital in 2010.

Gewara started as an online movie ticket seller when founded in 2008. Now, it aims to transform to an Internet platform which integrates urban entertainment and consumption information. The company announced $20 million of Series C financing led by CDH Investments. Gewara previously received 2 million yuan of Series A financing from Shanda Capital and tens of million yuan in Series B financing from CDH Investments and Shanda Capital.

2. Boqii

3. Gewara

Etaoshi is an online food ordering and delivery platform, offering one-stop catering services of restaurant reservation, ordering, payment, and delivery. Etaoshi is the partner of Taobao Diandian, Alibaba’s Dianping-like service. The company has secured $6 million of Series A financing this July.

4. RoseOnly

According to a survey by a focus group formed by women-led Singapore startups and small businesses, invoicing, manual processes, contact management, multiple software interfaces, team collaboration, online marketing and skill gaps present ongoing problems for startups. The event hopes to find solutions to address some of these challenges. “The right tools can literally make or break businesses, especially in the early stages,” says Amanda Blum, Co-founder and researcher at Connected Women.

In terms of teachers and coaches, there are over 70 of them active on the platform. Students usually attend group classes, although some coaches do provide one-on-one classes. The platform currently attracts teachers by “emailing them and telling them about the ease of use on Twofold”. The company also holds regular “Learn Over Lunch” sessions where it encourages attendees with minimum five years of experience in their fields to consider teaching.

Right now Idblognetwork manages 12,000 bloggers with over 180 million aggregated monthly impressions, and the startup has recorded good growth when it comes to attracting an international audience. Freakout itself manages several billion impressions every month in Japan, US, and Asia Pacific.

Founder Kukuh T. Wicaksono hopes that with the new platform, it can offer bloggers and publishers more relevant content from advertisers for readers. At the same time, the team wants to offer more alternatives for companies to spread their advertising campaign over to Ad Exchanges and SSPs through Idblognetwork.

Wicaksono believes that his competition includes both local and international DSP players. What’s going to make IDDSP different is the team’s more detailed user profiles in Indonesia.

There are a lot of foreign DSP and DMP services that aren’t that focused on analyzing user profiles in Indonesia. Idblognetwork and Freakout will look at data like user’s general information, hobby, marital status, and even the children’s profile according to their browsing behavior.

Sydney online tailors InStitchu raises funding at US$2.37M valuation

Founder Robin McGowan says that funding will help scale InStitchu across verticals and internationally. More physical premises too are in the offing

Sydney based online tailoring startup InStitchu has announced that it has secured venture capital funding from Disruptive Capital, the technology focussed arm of Aura Capital Group.

While the actual funding amount is undisclosed, the minority stake values the Sydney-based startup at A$2.5 million (US$2.37 million).

InStitchu, founded by entrepreneurs Robin McGowan and James Wakefield in 2012, enables customers to design made-to-measure suits, shirts, and accessories. InStitchu claims that more than 50,000 suits have been designed by customers using the online service to date.

Robin McGowan said the funding would help them scale the company across verticals and also internationally.
