If comedy is about ensemble, drama is so often defined by its leading characters. When people think of their favorite shows, it's typically the names of the male lead—Tony Soprano, Walter White, Dexter Morgan—that come to mind before the title of the show itself. Of course, it helps when they're one and the same; look no further than the most interesting character on TV this month when "Sherlock" returns to PBS this Sunday,

As one of France’s most famously picturesque regions, Provence is packed full of worthy destinations. I chose to make Avignon my base camp. It is a lovely, mid-sized city with plenty of restaurants, shops, history, and day-trip opportunities to make for a great lavender scented vacation escape.

When we arrived in Avignon on June 21st, to my surprise we were greeted by thick traffic and large crowds; not exactly what I expected. But there was actually a rather fortunate reason for all the hustle and bustle. It turns out that on this particular day in France, the national Fête de la Musique (Festival of Music) is held. People pour into the cities to enjoy free concerts held simultaneously throughout the streets.

Como una de las regiones más famosas y pinturescas de Francia, Provence esta llena de destinos que valen la pena visitar. Escogí hacer de Avignon mi campamento base. Esta es una bonita ciudad de tamaño medio con muchos restaurantes, tiendas, historia, y oportunidades de hacer en un solo día un escape vacacional con aroma a lavanda.
Cuando llegamos a Avignon el 21 de junio, para mi sorpresa ,fuimos recibidos por un tráfico pesado y grandes multitudes; no era exactamente lo que esperaba. Pero hubo una razón afortunada para toda esta actividad bulliciosa. Resultó que en este día particular en Francia, se celebra el Festival Nacional de la Música (Fête de la Musique). La gente entra a raudales a las ciudades para disirutar de conciertos gratuitos hechos simultaneamente a través de las calles.

But while Katsu's Zatoichi did change, it was not an orderly progression, and you couldn't really call it a " character arc," because so many of the changes had to do with factors outside the scope of the stories.
The film franchise did generally get darker over time, especially after Katsu Productions took over. But many of the films nevertheless hew to a basic formula: Zatoichi stumbles into a new town, accidentally kills or witnesses the death of an innocent, falls in love with a woman he will eventually leave, takes on corrupt local baddies, and wanders into the sunset. He's a blind antihero, and is always haunted by guilt for his unabashed love of sensual pleasures.
