ヘアバンドの一種だが、「カチューシャ」も「ヘアバンド」も日本独自の言い方（和製語）で、海外では使われない。

日本でこう呼ばれる由来はトルストイの小説『復活』のヒロインの名前で、映画や舞台化が日本で大ヒットしたことが背景とされる。
