The Andersen story deals with real moral issues and looks at questions such as what bad things can happen when we try to change ourselves in order to please someone else.　In contrast, in the Disney version the mermaid changes herself and lives happily ever after. A few years back I visited Disneyland in California and took a boat trip through the Disney version of Africa. I could see that the children in the boat were very excited by the wild animals.

アンデルセンの童話は真に道徳的な問題について論じます。誰かを喜ばせようとして私達自身が変わろうとするとき、どんな良くないことが起きるかというような問題です。対照的に、ディズニー版の人魚姫は、彼女自身が変わっても、その後ずっと楽しく生きていきます。 数年前、私はカリフォルニアのディズニーランドを訪れて、ディズニーのアフリカ版を通して、小船で旅行をしました。 小船の中で子供たちが野生動物にとても興奮していたのが分かりました。
