When the New York Film Critics Circle finally announced that David O. Russell's "American Hustle" topped their annual Best Picture debate, the response at Sony may have started with a deafening "YAY!" but turned to a more bitten-lip "Hmmm, what now?" While NYFCC has insisted in recent years that they have become the first major shot heard round the awards circle during this season, any handicapper looking at the numbers know that a shout-out from the East Coast is more of a curse than a blessing. This is meant in no way to diminish Russell's film, which is one of the very best in 2013's final quarter. Remember that this is the Oscar race we are talking about.

Russell era la ganadora al premio a la mejor película del año, la reacción de Sony podría haber comenzado por un ensordecedor '¡hurra! pero se quedó en un dubitativo "Hmmm, ¿y ahora qué?" Mientras el NYFCC ha insistido en los últimos años en que se ha convertido en el referente de los premios que se otorgan en esta temporada, cualquier especialista en valoraciones descubriría al ver las cifras que las opiniones que proceden de la costa este son más una maldición que una bendición. Con ello no se pretende de ninguna manera menospreciar la película de Russell, que se considera una de las mejores del cuarto trimestre de 2013. Hay que tener en cuenta que se trata de la carrera por los Oscar.
