I like working as a translator and I have been told I’m good at it. I have translated books and articles, both from English to Polish and the other way around. Working with a written text is fun, but what I really love to do is live translation. Even though my long-term memory can be infuriatingly selective, my short-term one is usually pitch-perfect. It comes very easily to me to listen to a large chunk of someone else’s speech and then render it faithfully in its entirety. Since I never take notes, many people who saw me do my shtick say they are stunned by that ability of mine (you can witness it in this video, or this).
J'aime travailler en tant que traducteur et on m'a dit que je suis doué. J'ai traduit des livres et des articles, soit de l'anglais au polonais soit dans le sens inversé. Il est amusant de traduire un texte écrit, mais ce que j'aime fort bien, c'est de travailler en tant qu'interprète. Bien que ma mémoire à longue terme soit très sélective, celle à court terme est parfaite d'habitude. Il m'arrive facilement d'entendre un long discours et de le reproduire fidèlement en entier. Puisque je ne prends jamais de notes, beaucoup de gens est surprise lorsqu'ils vont admirer mon truc et ils sont surpris par mon habileté (vous pourrez l'admirer en ce vidéo, ou bien en ceci).
