U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has stated that reaching an agreement with Iran on Sunday will be the first step towards preventing the country's nuclear program from becoming a threat to its neighbors.

At a press conference in Geneva, where negotiations were held between Iran and the six world powers, Kerry said that if this first step leads to our ultimate goal, which is the formulation of a comprehensive agreement, then that will make the world a safer place.

Kerry said that this first phase of the agreement provides time to work to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, and stressed his intention to reach a more complete agreement within the next six months.
