Aをまた購入することはできないでしょうか??もし在庫があればぜひ購入したいと考えています。今後入手できる可能性があれば優先的に譲って頂ければと思います。ご連絡お待ちしております。

English

It was said this year around August, there was a transaction with E-bay.
Is it possible to purchase "A" again? If the stock is available, I would very much like to purchase it.
In future, if there is a possibility to have priority it will be good.
Thank you very much, I look forward to your reply.

お邪魔します。
The "possibility" is not for the writer to get the priority, but for the receiver of this mail to obtain the products in the future.

aspenx aspenx 25 Nov 2013 at 15:17

Hi 14pon. I don't think that is the case here.

14pon 14pon 25 Nov 2013 at 16:00

今後入手できる可能性があれば
Should you have a chance to obtain that product in the future,

優先的に譲って頂ければと
I would appreciate if you could remember me first to sell to.
I would appreciate if you could give me the priority to buy one.

おふたりとも、「相手が入手する」話が抜け落ちているわけです。
「もし、いつかあなたがそれを買うことができたら、私に優先的に売ってください」といっています。

Hi 14pon,

Yes, I know you are Japanese.............

"The "possibility" is not for the writer to get the priority, but for the receiver of this mail to obtain the products in the future."

aspenx aspenx 25 Nov 2013 at 16:22

My comment was cut off...

"The "possibility" is not for the writer to get the priority, but for the receiver of this mail to obtain the products in the future." and the sentence that preceeds it. < - maybe I understood you wrongly.

Did you mean the following?:
Writer to get priority X
Receiver to obtain products as top priority O

That's what your English implied actually.

Anyways,
I will like to have priority to the goods if it is possible = I would appreciate if you could remember me first to sell to = I would appreciate if you could give me the priority to buy one.

ie. They are all fundamentally the same.

However, in my translation, "Should you have a chance to obtain that product in the future" was not explicitly mentioned. This is because the meaning is implied from the usage of "it" and the preceeding sentence.

By the way, I am a "native English speaker"............

Hi,

You are not wrong and neither are the translations. Please feel free to add your own translation since it's more precise.

Revised:
Looks like our comments crossed.

The sentence that preceeds mentions about "the present". But the succeeding part is talking about the futre. (Idea reviesed →)It is written regardless of the current stock availability. That is: No matter whether you have it in stock or not, "whenever you have a chance to obtain the product in the future, give me the priority to buy one" ← (This is my translation:"Whenever ~").

As for your question,
Writer to get priority 〇
Receiver to obtain products as POSSIBILITY
If my English confused you,
原文の「可能性」という言葉は、receiver/seller が、将来その商品を手に入れるかどうかの「可能性」を言ったもの。(The word "possibility" is used to indicate if the receiver/seller can buy the product in the future or not.)
「優先的」という言葉は、writer/buyer がその商品を買える順番。ただし、writer にも「優先的に買える」という意味でのpossibilityはある。

I agree that the three sentences you listed mean the same.

To be continued. It was too long to send.

Continued from above:

Now, the omitted part. From the preceeding sentence and "it" alone, it seems to me that the writer wants the priority anytime, even now.
Was 今後入手できる可能性があれば something useless or needless to translate? Sometimes Japanese language does include something in vain, though. (I'm not accusing you at all, for just in case.)

And, for me, the "it" indicates "to have priority", but not the preceeding sentence. Even if it does indicate the preceeding sentence, it is about NOW, but not the FUTURE.

14pon 14pon 25 Nov 2013 at 18:16

Good to have a discussion, anyway.

aspenx aspenx 25 Nov 2013 at 18:22

今後入手できる可能性があれば is redundant to me.
The preceeding SITUATION suggested by the preceeding sentence is "there is stock because the seller has obtained it and have not finished selling it".
This situation can be better referenced by swapping the word "it" in "I will like to have priority to the goods if it is possible." with the word "that".

Simple.

I don't think this discussion is productive. It is not about "now" or "the future". It is about the situation suggested by the words. There is no need to be too pedantic/critical in my opinion.

14pon 14pon 25 Nov 2013 at 18:56

Revised further again:

The writer is not sure if the receiver still has the product in stock now. And the writer wonders if the receiver may buy the same product any more.
I just started to think that this may be what Japanese put importance, that is, if you are talking about the present or the future, but negligeable in English.
The Japanese words obviously suggest about the future, separate from and regardless of the present situation.
I didn't mean any criticisms. I was just puzzled to see the phrase omitted.
I apologize if I offended your feelings, and thank you for your time.

It's okay.

We all learn something everyday.

To be honest, your translation will be more complete.

14pon 14pon 25 Nov 2013 at 21:32

You don't say "the priority to do", dont' you? Must be WEIRD Lol! I should have put it "Whenever you have a chance to obtain the same products, please give priority to me," maybe...

Yea, it does sound kinda weird...
