There is much controversy about the extent to which storage of information in computers constitutions an unreasonable interference with privacy, and as to what safeguards should be introduced.
Computers are extensively used both in the private and public sectors. The significance of computer records is that they make data more easily accessible and enable it be transferred and combined with other material. The risks to which this gives rise are that the information is false or incomplete, that is given to unauthorized persons, or that it is used for purpose other than that for which it was collected.
