Senior English → Portuguese (Portugal)
I started majoring in Translation in college but quit when I realized they believe in quantity over quality. Before I quit however I finished all the practical classes as well as computer-assisted translation class.
I believe that a good translation is one that is detailed-oriented while never looking sight of the big picture. That translations should be done by meaning and not words, while celebrating cultural differences.
No formal experience yet. I have done a few odd jobs translating for family and friends.

When I was 14, I fell in love with books and it's a love affair that has only grown with the years. For a long time it was my dream to major in translation and help other people fall in love with them, and, even though I quit before finishing all my credits (at the time I was very unhappy with the course as it put quantity over quality), I did finish the practical classes and the computer-assisted translation class.

I lived in Portugal for 25 years before I became a citizen of the world, teaching English to teenagers and adults. So far I've lived in Poland and Spain, and have had summer jobs in Ukraine and England. I grew up reading books both in English and Portuguese, and sometimes even the same book in both languages, as I've always found it interesting to see how translators are able to get around a tricky or difficult part.

I've done a bit of translating through Babelcube and I've loved knowing that I'm helping other people fall in love with books, just as I dreamed.
