Alibaba’s Mapping Company AutoNavi Rolls out a Gadget to Accompany Its Navigation App

AutoNavi, the mapping company of Alibaba, launched a coin-sized gadget called Xiaomi (means young secretary), today. Its core function is launch the AutoNavi navigation app in your smartphone with one click.

The gadget is also a tracker that will trigger an alarm whenever your smartphone gets out of the border of an area, and vice versa.

A third function is it’s enable to trigger your smartphone camera. The price isn’t announced.

Alibabaの地図作製会社Autonaviが、Xiaomi(意味は「若い秘書」)という、サイズが硬貨ほどの機械を本日公開した。主な機能は、スマートフォンに入っているAutonaviナビゲーション・アプリをワン・タッチで起動する事だ。

この機械には追跡機能もついており、持ち主のスマートフォンが特定の境界から出そうになった場合に、或い入りそうになった場合に、アラームを鳴らす指示を送ることもできる。

三つ目の機能は、スマートフォンのカメラを遠隔操作で起動できるというものだ。金額については、まだ明らかになっていない。

What’s interesting here is that this is the second messaging platform we have seen become the base for a game platform, the first one being NHN Japan’s Line application which recently expanded to be not just a game platform, but even more besides. We’ve made contact with Kakao today and are hoping to hear more details about its Game Center plans soon.

In other Kakao news, yesterday Daily Social pointed out that Indonesian carrier Telkomsel is now offering an unlimited-use package for four popular apps, including KakaoTalk. The others are Opera Mini, WhatsApp, and the afore-mentioned Line.

今後のGame Centerの企画についても、近日中に詳細を聞けるのではないかと期待している。

Kakao Talkに関連したニュースは他にもある。
昨日のDaily Socialの発表によれば、インドネシアの携帯電話会社Telkomselが、定額制のパケット使い放題コースを導入したとのことだ。
対象は主に普及している４種類のアプリケーションで、その中にはKakao Talkも含まれている。
他の３つは、Opera MiniとWhatsApp、そして前述したLineだ。
