室生寺の境内を巡る


室生寺の境内を散歩。
山の緑にとけ込むように、歴史を感じさせるお堂が立ち並びます。

その奥、長い石段を上った先に見えるのが、五重塔です。

この五重塔も実は国宝。
日本にある五重塔の中で、屋外に立つものとしては最も小さく、また法隆寺の五重塔に次いで二番目に古い塔なのだそうです。

Walking around the temple ground, you will come across the historical buildings that assimilate into its background of the greenery of the mountain.

Behind these buildings is a flight of long stone steps leading up to the five story pagoda. This pagoda, in fact, is the national treasure as well. It maybe the smallest among the five story pagodas in Japan that are built outside but the second oldest next to that of the Horyuji Temple.
