awaitは、確かに自然ではないが使っても構いません。
問題は、テンスです。

助動詞　(Will)　は…　

　　過去　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　現在　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　未来
　　　Ｘ　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　Ｘ　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　I－－－－－－＞　
のような意味になります。「未来のある時点からメッセージを待ちはじめる」。かなり不自然ではありませんか？
