Wikiは、利用者が共同で自分たちの環境を構築するという思想、パターンランゲージ、に大きな影響を受けて生まれました。建築分野で生まれたパターンランゲージはソフトウェア開発業界に大きな影響を与え、デザインパターン、XP、Wikiなどといった設計思想・システムが生まれました。このようなパターンランゲージを源として様々な設計思想・システムが生まれた歴史的経緯について、「パターン、Wiki、XP ―― 時を超えた創造の原則」(技術評論社、2007)という本にまとめました

Wiki has been significantly influenced and was produced by the concept and pattern language of users themselves constructing their environment collaboratively. The pattern language produced in the architecture field has greatly influenced the software development industry, and the design concepts/systems such as design patterns, XP, Wiki, etc. were born. The historical circumstances produced by the various design concepts/systems from which pattern language originates are summarized in the book "Pattern, Wiki, XP-- the timeless creation formula"

Wiki, the idea that a user environment is jointly created by its users, was born under the influence of “pattern languages”. “Pattern languages” created by the architectural field have had a big impact on software development industries, where the design concepts and systems of “design patterns”, “XP”, and “wiki” have developed. The history of the development of design concepts and systems based on pattern languages is summarized in the book, “Patterns, Wiki, XP – Toki wo Koeta Souzou no Gensoku” (Patterns, Wiki, XP – principles of timeless creation), published by Gijutsu-Hyohron Co., Ltd, 2007.

When Wiki was created, it was strongly affected by the pattern language, philosophy that users collaborate to create a system of their own. The pattern language born in architecture had a huge impact on software development, which resulted in birth of design philosophies and systems such as design pattern, XP and Wiki. This book "Pattern, Wiki, and XP -- universal principle of creation" (Gijutsushoronsya, 2007) explains about the history of various design philosophies and systems which originate from such pattern language.
