Something similar happens when interviewers begin with simpler questions to ease into the interview and end up learning a lot (in a bad way) when an anxious interviewee responds in a hostile or condescending manner. How to Ensure You Get It Right

So just how should the wannabe tech employee handle unexpected, difficult questions in the heat of an interview? Five pieces of advice from the experts:

1. Sit and think. Write down all relevant information.
2. Ask a lot of questions. Sometimes interview questions aren’t as confusing or overwhelming once you start to clarify some assumptions that either you or the interviewer might have made.
3. Find a logical framework for solving the problem, and an approach that will allow you to start making progress.

China’s Alibaba Spins Off Aliyun Mobile OS Business, Supports it With $200M Investment

In a surprise move, Chinese e-commerce behemoth Alibaba is spinning off its Aliyun mobile OS division and giving it $200 million worth of investment. It comes just a week after Aliyun suffered a major setback, hitting the global news when Google slammed it as an incompatible version of Android. Alibaba disagrees with that assessment, but the end result was Google preventing a new flagship Aliyun phone, made by Acer, from launching.

Though it’s not known if the move is related to this setback, it’s a significant development for China’s most ambitious homegrown smartphone platform. In a memo written by Alibaba founder and CEO Jack Ma that leaked out to media, Ma explains fully:

After two years of hard work mixed with trials, we have seen significant progress in the Aliyun OS business. We have built a strong team and also gained recognition from our business partners. To better safeguard the healthy growth of Aliyun OS business and further implement the [Alibaba] Group’s Aliyun wireless strategy, we need to make adjustments 
in terms of talent, organizational structure and the Group’s resource allocation.

Yelp enters Asia with launch in Singapore

San Francisco-headquarterd restaurant review site Yelp went public in March and has been expanding aggressively into new markets ever since. This time, Yelp officially launches in Singapore (its Asian debut) and the occasion was commemorated by the hanging of the nation’s flag in the San Francisco office, and its national anthem sung – all these with the virtual participation of its new, small Singapore team and other Yelp employees across the world on Skype:

In Singapore, Yelp is against the local food review giant, Hungrygowhere. Hungrygowhere was a startup that was acquired by Asian telecommunications firm, SingTel, back in April for USD 9.4M and is now run by the telco’s lifestyle portal, inSing.

The Singapore Yelp site already counts many reviews, with almost 2000 restaurants being reviewed. The Yelp iOS app has been available in the Singapore iTunes app store for about a year. You can download Yelp for your mobile across the various platforms.

Alibaba: Investing $150+ Million a Year in Mobile OS to Beat Android, iOS

China’s biggest e-commerce company, Alibaba, launched its Aliyun mobile OS back in July of last year, bringing an entirely new mobile ecosystem into the crowded space that’s dominated by Android and iOS. And now Wang Jian, the president of Alibaba Cloud Computing (the department that created the Aliyun OS), has said that the e-tailer is willing to invest RMB 1 billion ($158 million) per year in its development, with a dedicated R&D team of 1,200 people.

Even with the might of the company behind it, the OS limped to one million in sales in its first year, and is currently found on two smartphone models – the K-Touch W800, and the budget Haier Zing (pictured). One million is a pretty large figure, but with nearly 200 million 3G users in the country, and Android and iOS usage growing at 401 percent in China, it’s tough to see how it can be a contender. But Aliyun will get a new flagship phone very soon – we’ve seen it, and it does indeed look like more of a world-class smartphone than the two that came before it – so that might have an impact by the time of next year’s sales figures.

The cloud-oriented OS focuses on web apps and is based on Linux – not adapted from Android. But it can run Android apps via virtualization, giving users access to lots of neat apps and games. In Wang Jian’s talk with local media, as reported by Techweb, the Ph.D and computer engineer said that Aliyun is mainly going after Google’s Android OS. He stressed that, in terms of mobile usage of cloud computing, Google wasn’t doing it right, and he and his team is confident that Aliyun represents the better way to do a mobile platform.

Standard with Automatic SCAN (LCD Indicator – none) This setting allows most targets to be distanced up to 1600
yards. Used for moderately reflective targets that are typical of most distancing situations. The minimum distance in 11
the standard mode is 10 yards. To use the Automatic SCAN feature, simply hold down on the POWER button for
approximately 3 seconds and move the rangefinder from object to object while leaving the POWER button depressed.
Automatic SCAN will allow the range to be continuously updated as multiple objects are targeted.

informing the user that distance to the closer object is being displayed in the LCD.
Once in this mode, press the POWER button to turn the unit on. Next, align the aiming circle onto the object (i.e.
deer) that you want distance to.Next, press and hold the POWER button and move the laser slowly over the deer
until crosshairs surround the BullsEye indicator.

If the laser beam recognized more
than one object (i.e. deer and background trees), distance of the closer object (i.e. deer) will be displayed and
crosshairs will surround the BullsEye indicator informing the user that distance to the closer object is being displayed
in the LCD (Figure 1). There may be times when only the laser beam only sees one object in its path. In this case,
the distance will be displayed, but because more than one object was not acquired, crosshairs will not surround the
BullsEye indicator.
TIP: While pressing the POWER button, you can move the device slowly from object to object and intentionally
force the laser to hit multiple objects to ensure that you are only displaying the closest
