私は、指をくわえながら家の中を歩き回り、踊場にたどり着いた。電話だ！急いで踏み台に駆け寄り、それを踊り場にもって行った。踏み台によじ登り、受話器を取って、耳に押し当てた。私は、頭のすぐ上にある話し口に向かって「インフォメーションお願いします。」　と言った。1回、2回かちかちという音が鳴ると、小さく透き通った声で「インフォメーションです」というのが聞こえた。
