染めるための型紙（伊勢型紙）について。伊勢型紙の型地紙（かたぢがみ：または渋紙とも呼ばれます。）は、手漉きの和紙を手作業で柿渋を用いて張り合わせ、天日に干して作られます。その紙を用いて、型彫師が卓越した技と時間を費やして精緻な文様を彫り上げたものが伊勢型紙です。この写真の型紙は、絹の紗と漆を用いて「紗張り（しゃばり）」という、染色のための補強が施されています。

About paper patterns for dyeing (Ise paper patterns): The ground paper for Ise paper patterns, also called as Shibugami (tannin paper), is made with handmade paper, which is strengthened with persimmon tannin juice and dried under the sun. These paper is carved by pattern craft people with their remarkable skills and considerable time to be completed as meticulously designed Ise paper patterns. The paper pattern in this picture is reinforced by a method called “Shabari” with silk gauge and lacquer for dyeing.

Katazigami (or called Shibugami.) of Ise dyed pattern paper pastes handmade Japanese paper together using persimmon juice manually, is dried in the sun and made.　It is the Ise dyed pattern paper which spent the work and time in which the model engraver excelled using the paper, and carved a minute pattern in relief.
The paper pattern of this photograph uses a silk gauze and lacquer tree, and reinforcement for dyeing of "Shabari" is given.

渋紙の型紙を用いる江戸小紋などの染色作業（型染め）自体も技術を要すると言われますが、高い技術が発揮された型紙（染め型）があってこそ、繊細な美しさを表現することができます。染め上げられた生地の美しさもさることながら、型紙そのものも、古くから日本に伝わる素晴らしい材料と高い技術が凝縮した、贅沢なもの（だった）といえるのかもしれません。
