しかし実際には、粗いピッチのねじを使っていたので、０．１mmの桁までしか測定できなかった。そこでフランスでは商品化されることはなかった。 その頃米国では金属板の板厚測定に問題が多く、１８５７年頃、ニューヨーク州のホーの開発した測定器を用いて検査していたが、基準になるものではなかった。ブリッジポート青鋼会社のウィルモットの注文に応じて、ブラウンとシャープとがその開発に乗りだし、初めはホーの測定器の商品化を目指したがなかなかうまくいかない。

But in fact, only up to a figure of 0.1mm could measure because rough pitched screw was used. Therefore it was not commercialized in France. At that time in U.S, there were many problems in measurement of board thickness and a measuring instrument for inspection developed by Mr. Ho was used in around 1957 but it did not become a standard. Complying with the order of Mr. Wolmot, Bridge Port Manganese Bronze Company, Braun and Sharp set about the development and they aimed for the conmercialization of Mr.Ho's measuring instrument at the beginning but it did not work well.
