除夜の鐘
仏教寺院で、12月31日の夜に行われる行事。お寺に存在する大きな鐘を108回突くのが一般的。 108回という回数にポイントがあり、人の心に存在する「ボンノウ」の種類の数が基本と言われている。（ボンノウとは身心を乱し悩ませる心の働き（汚れ）を総称して言う。）
日本ではこのお寺の音を聞きながら、寺院にある本堂にお祈りをし、一年の総仕上げを行う。またお寺によっては、実際に除夜の鐘をたたかせてくれることもある。
