Thermal insulation valure(TIV) was calculated by the following equation, based on the device for measuring heat keeping property of the Thermal Labo II type.The measuring conditions were 55%, 65%, 75%, 85%, and 95%RH, and air movement lOcm/sec, respectively,
with a constant temperature of 20°C. The temperature of the hot plate was 30°C, and air space between the hot plate and the knitted fabrics were 0 ,1, 2 , 4 , 6 , and 8mm.Fig.1 shows the principle used by the Thermo Labo device to measure the TIV of knitted fabrics.All properties including tensile, shearing, compression, bending, surface and thickness were measured under the knit condition(high sensitivity condition) of KES-F system's mechanical property.

7 indicates the distribution between bulk bensity and TIV and qmax in order to suggest the effects on thermal insulation and qmax of knitted fabrics, respectively. It was shown that there was little correlation between bulk density and TIV, qmax, respectively. The correlation coefficient of bulk density and qmax was 0.50, while bulk density and TIV was 0.83 which had a high correlation. Therefore, the smaller the bulk density, the better the TIV, while the smaller the bulk density, the greater the warm feeling. 8 shows the distribution MMD/SMD(mean deviation of friction coefficient/mean deviation of surface contour) and qmax in order to suggest the relation between surface property and qmax of knitted fabrics.
