Alibaba reaches 334 million shoppers who spent $126 billion in Q4

Alibaba’s Q4 2014 earnings report – its second financial release since its huge IPO – just came out.

Firstly, here are the ecommerce-related bits:

・Taobao marketplace reached RMB 494 billion (US$79.3 billion) in gross merchandise volume (GMV), which basically shows how much people spent on the ecommerce site. That’s up 43 percent from the same period in 2013.

・Sister site Tmall hit RMB 293 billion (US$47 billion) in GMV, up 60 percent from 12 months ago.

It’s too early to tell if these sizable companies have got all the ingredients to make a new brand that clones Xiaomi in the hope of battling Xiaomi. Ma and Rose ended the chat on the subject of China’s slowing GDP growth. The double-digit growth has now given way to about seven percent expansion, and Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang recently embraced this by saying that China’s economy is entering a “new normal” of slower but healthier growth. Ma agreed that it’s more sustainable, particularly with regard China’s environment, hinting at environmental concerns he has expressed numerous times over the past few years.

When I received the camcorder, first thing I did was test everything. All the buttons and settings worked properly, the picture was clear and everything seemed to be working as it should. When I tried to import the footage to my Macbook the editing software(Final Cut Pro), would not let me import more than a few seconds and no sound got imported with the clip. Just to make sure it didn t have anything to do with my software or the Mini DV camera that I use for importing footage, I recorded some foootage on a different Sony Vx1000 that I have, and the footage then played back with sound perfectly.

When playing back the footage on the camera that I bought the picture is clear but there is no sound, same thing when using a different camcorder to play back/ import footage. The camera does indicate sound in the level meter and when plugging in headphones the sound is perfect. I didn t understand why no sound was recorded since the camera indicates that the microphone is working. When looking it up online I read that people have had similar problems and that most of the time it has to do with a defect in the main board. I would like to return the camcorder and get money back so that I can buy a working one. I would also be open for the seller getting it repaired and then sending it back to me.
