かつてこの地は蝦夷地と呼ばれていましたが、
1800年代後半に起こった政治改革の折、北海道と名を改めました。

そして今年は、蝦夷地が北海道と改められて150年が経つ年です。
私は150年前、あるいはそれ以前から変わらない古道、
先住民や開拓者達が歩んだ、歴史ある足跡を辿る旅に出ました。

四季を通してこの旅を続けるうち、そこで見た物はダイナミックで変化に富み、
心から美しいと思える北の大地の姿でした。

This land used to be called Ezo and after the political reform occurred in the late 1800, it changed its name to Hokkaido.

And this year is the year of 150 year anniversary of Hokkaido changing its name from Ezo.
I went on a trip where I trace a old path that’s just been there since good 150 years ago or even more and the historical footprints the natives and pioneers had walked through.
